Winter is Back!
Winter showed itself once again along the Pere Marquette River. Snow came down on Tuesday and through out the rest of the week. I don’t mind the cold, after all it’s Steelhead fishing and it’s still Winter. Cold weather can be good, it will drop the water temps down, keeping the fresher Spring fish from spawning. The river already is getting low and clear with winter water temps back in the mid thirties. Fishing last week was decent despite the weather. Monday we saw a great bite which I expected, it was the calm before the storm. When Tuesday rolled around, the front came in and it was a little tougher then Monday’s bite, due to a rapid drop in the water temps. Water temps and fishing held pretty steady through out the rest of the week. Flies have been Egg Flies and Nymph imitations, more natural color Egg’s have worked really well along with some Hex Nymphs. The Salmon Fry are also starting to heat up , did see a few along the banks on Thursday. If interested in a day on the Pere Marquette River. I’m now booking for Spring and Summer Trout Fishing, full and half days available. I have a few good Streamer dates left in May. You can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Pics : Last week Jeff and Katherine joined me for there annual Spring Steelhead Trips. We had a awesome day , before the weather turned. John and Tom came up for there three day Steelhead adventure. John now is 88 years old and he still loves chasing Steelhead on a Fly Rod. We had some great fishing through out the week. Both of them did great !!!
