Trout Opener

The Pere Marquette  Steelhead Season has come to and end for me this week.  There are a few Steelhead in the system.  Last weeks rain brought the river level up again and with the warmer temps the Steelhead were spawning faster and they rode the wave out.   The fish that are around are spawning or are drop backs sitting in some of the pools and runs.   I want to thank

Spring is finally here to stay

Spring is finally here to stay, Steelhead are heading out and the Trout are starting to look up after a long winter I believe Spring has finally arrived on the Pere Marquette River.   The Gobbler’s are Gobbling and the  Morels are starting to pop.  The river is coming up fast and getting dirty with recent rains Friday night and Saturday night.  Just like the up and downs of the water level, this last

Need Some of those “April Showers” on the Banks of the Pere Marquette

Steelhead fishing on the Pere Marquette is good. You can find fish throughout the whole river system.   Not seeing a lot of fish in the deeper pools and runs, finding most of them in pocket water around spawning areas.  We could of used some of the rain the lower part of the state received last week.  Did get a little rain, not enough though to bring the river levels up and push some new fish into

Pere Marquette River Fishing Report

The Pere Marquette River fished well for Steelhead last week.   The beginning of the week was great, we found and hooked some chrome in the pools.  It was really good for a couple of days.  By mid week they scattered and were on the move.    With the rain over the weekend we’re sure to see more coming into the system.   The river is in good shape coming up today and has a

March Madness and Steelhead on the Pere Marquette River

Steelhead fishing on the Pere Marquette was pretty good last week, if you could endure the cold arctic temps once again.  With the colder weather came dropping water levels and colder water temperatures.    The fishing was more like winter fishing then spring.   Steelhead started to fall back into more winter like pools and runs and preferred slower drifts and smaller more natural flies.   With the river starting to clear we

Winter is Back

Winter is back!!!! It was another crazy week on the banks of the Pere Marquette River.  The weather has been “frustrating”, warm temps with super high winds, then arctic temps, wind and snow.   One good thing though is it doesn’t seem to bother the fish. Steelhead fishing was good again last week.   Finding fish in all sorts of water conditions from high water situations to a river now that is on the drop

In Like a Lion, Out like a Lamb

“In like a Lion out like Lamb” what ever that saying maybe , we can all keep our fingers crossed.  We sure have had some goofy weather patterns on the banks of the Pere Marquette River lately.  Last week in just one 8 hour day we fished through rain, freezing rain, hail and snow.   By Wednesday of last week the river was on the rise once again and came up

The River is up and water temps are down

My first full week of Spring guiding kicked off on Tuesday.  Just like the water level and weather, it had its ups and downs. The beginning of the week was awesome, the pools fished great.   Had some of the best Steelhead fishing had seen in awhile.  With warmer weather and water temps the fish were “happy”.   By the end of the week the rains came and the river was on

The Pacific Northwest

From the Pacific Northwest to the Midwest the Steelhead addiction Last week I had one of the coolest fishing adventures ever.  Ryan Ligman and I flew out to Oregon to join up with good friend Tom Larimer to Swing Flies for Steelhead.   Since I was a fly angler in my youth, I dreamed of hooking a Pacific Coast Steelhead on the swing.  For myself this is what I thought Steelhead fishing was , it was

Fishing Report 2.1.17

The Pere Marquette Steelhead fished well last week when the water was dropping.  The river did fluctuate a bit through out the week though. Now the water seems to be in much better shape.  The lower you go in the system the faster the current and dirtier the water.    We mostly hooked Fall/Winter fish but did see a few fresh Spring fish show themselves.   The bite can still be on and off,
