Kings Of The River

The Pere Marquette is back into shape since the heavy rains and storms.   The river is floatable now from M-37 to Upper Branch Bridge.  Big thank you to the Baldwin Canoe Rental, some Guides and U.S.F.S. for cleaning up the river.   River has dropped quite a bit and is clearing. You can find King Salmon through out the whole river system.  Look for fish to continue to start

The Storm of 2018! River Report 9.5.18

Last week turned into quite the mess in our area.  The weather turned ugly Tuesday night bringing heavy rains, high winds and two confirmed Tornados one hit Baldwin and one hit Idlewild. I have never seen so many trees and power lines down.  Thanks to everyone in our community for working so hard this last week. Clearing trees, debris and getting the power up again. It’s a mess up here

River is on the Rise

The Pere Marquette River is on the rise, we’re getting some much needed rain up here right now.  The river is getting dirty and coming up more.   A few Salmon started to show up in the river last week with the recent rains we had.  They were moving fast though, due to the dirty water.  Best bet was tossing crankbaits down river for more success.   Trout fishing was

The River is full of Hoppertunities!

Terrestrial Fishing on the Pere Marquette remains good.  All about Hoppertunity’s right now, somedays the bite has been better then others.   A mix bag of Crickets, Damsel, Cicada and Hopper ‘s have all worked well.  The River is extremely low and clear, a good cast in the right spot is key to success. Pics from this week.   Good friend and one of the best Ambassador’s for our Sport

Terrestrial Time On The Pere Marquette River

It’s “Terrestrial Time” on the Pere Marquette River.  Fishing last week was tough with multiple fronts moving in and out.  We did see some rain last week which was much needed. The river was very low and clear.  Now it has a little color to it.  Flies have been a multiple Hopper patterns in Green, Tan and Yellow.  Trico’s have been coming off pretty good in the mornings.  Ant’s and

How Low Will the Water Go?

Trout fishing on the Pere Marquette River has been up and down.  Some days like last Saturday and Sunday were awesome and now by mid week it’s getting harder. The river just keeps dropping in level and is getting clearer everyday. The fish are getting edgy and spooky.  Water temps are much cooler now  with the colder nights and mornings were seeing. Looks like we might get some rain over

Enjoy The Holiday!

It’s been a super busy week for me on the Pere Marquette River. Evening trips to early a.m. trips and late night trips, I have covered all the bases.   Fishing has been up and down still. Started to see a good daytime evening bite once again when temps warmed up and river started to clear.  Then heavy rains again on Tuesday night through Wed morning brought river up a

PM and a Little Warm Water

With a big cold front last week and more rain, Fly Fishing for Trout on the Pere Marquette was tough.  There bellies are full, only a few were willing to play.  Small Streamers got there attention again early in the week. By the weekend we were starting to get a few to look up at  Stimulator type patterns.  The hatches were a bust with the colder weather, plenty of Drakes

We are having a Heat Wave!

Trout fishing on the Pere Marquette River has been hit or miss.  Last week we saw good numbers of Gray Drakes in the air but minimal Spinner falls through out the week.  Some stretches and nights were decent some nights a bust.  By the Holiday weekend the weather and Dry Fly fishing started to heat up. By Sunday there were reports of even a few Hex’s fluttering around in spots

Dry Fly Fishing should start heating up with the weather

Spring is finally here. The banks are turning green, the Hummingbirds and Oriole’s have showed up along with the bugs that the Trout so eagerly feed on. Trout Fishing is in full swing on the Pere Marquette River.   Last week it was Streamers smacked on the banks in the beginning.  Then followed by light tippet and delicate casts as you floated a Hendrickson spinner to a rising trout.  With
