Recipe = “Dash of Steelhead”
Once again the Pere Marquette River had high water last week from rain and snow. It started to drop by the weekend but is now on the rise again from rain on Sunday. This high water should of been the perfect recipe to bring in a good amount of chrome Steelhead. Unfortunately, its hard to tell how many are really here with the constant high water. Covering a lot of runs or water has been key to success. Fish are really moving a lot on the higher river levels. Looks like Winter is truly going to hit this week, snow and temps in the thirties. Steelhead bite has mostly been on Egg flies, the Swing game has been tough especially with the higher water last week. Flows were fast and wading was tough. There’s still a lot of King Salmon and a few Coho’s spawning which means a lot of real eggs in the water. For flies try Brighter Nuke or Clown Egg’s with the dirtier water. on the Swing bigger Brighter Leech patterns.
Few Pics from last week : Finding some Chrome in the rain, snow, sleet and wind. Steelheading weather !!!!!
