Drakes in the Air, things are looking up

Hope everyone was able to enjoy there Memorial Weekend. The weather was great for getting outside. Want to thank everyone in our armed forces for all that you do in serving and protecting our country and the men and women who have died for protecting our great country. The Pere Marquette River came up quite a bit last week with heavy rains we had.  It’s now starting to drop and

Spring Has Sprung

Spring has arrived officially on the banks of the Pere Marquette River.  Mother nature threw a little winter at us again a week ago.  After seeing a couple Orioles along the river on Wednesday  and finding a few Morel Mushrooms, I would say Spring has sprung.   The river was pretty low and clear last week, did however come up with some heavy rains we saw on Thursday.  Fishing was

Mix it up in High Dirty Water

The Pere Marquette River came up quite a bit last week with heavy rains from Tuesday night through Thursday.  As of Friday afternoon it was into its banks  and very dirty.   The warmer weather is starting to get the bugs to pop.  Seeing some Hendrickson’s and still smaller Stoneflies around and some Blue Winged Olives on the cloudy days.  Not a lot of fish rising yet just a few

Covid-19 and a Man with a Tiger

I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe and healthy. Crazy times in our world right now, this whole virus epidemic, State on lockdown and some weird looking dude with a Tiger all over the internet which I have not seen nor want to see.  Trying to stay away from all the media junk right now it’s getting a little out of hand if you ask me. The Pere

Shaking Hands with Steelhead

The Pere Marquette River is in great shape. With a little rain last week the river level bumped up a little and has still shows a slight stain to it. Steelhead fishing remains consistent through out the river system. With a mix bag of old and new fish. Still haven’t seen any big pushes of chrome yet just small pushes here and there which is good. The run isn’t coming

River is on the Drop

The Pere Marquette River is now on the drop.  With rains last week and melting snow the river was into and over it’s banks.  The surprising thing was with such high water, it wasn’t  really dirty. It held a nice tea stain throughout the week, making for some great Steelhead fishing.  Now that it’s on the drop were finding a few bright fish here and there in the dark water

Spring Showers to bring in the Chromers

Last week on the Pere Marquette River the river was low and clear  with unseasonal warm water temperatures for this time of year.  The water started to come up a bit on Sunday with some snow melt and we have a wet week ahead. Hopefully this is the recipe to bring some fresh Chrome Steelhead into all the rivers.   Steelhead fishing remains good, you can find fish through out

Tug of War Continues

Winter and Spring look to be having a tug of war up here.  Last weekend Spring was in the air along the Pere Marquette River. The birds were singing, sun was shining and the fish seemed a little happier too.  We even heard a few ( cheeseburger birds) in the tree tops. 😃 The river has dropped a little and cooled off a bit. Steelhead numbers are low however. We’re

What happened to winter?

Winter  along the Pere Marquette River has been great.  The river right now is slightly up with a nice little stain to it and the water temps the last few weeks have been quite warm for this time of year in the high thirties and low forties.   We did lose a little more snow over the weekend which brought the river up a little.   What happened to Winter?
