Fishing Reports

PM and a Little Warm Water

With a big cold front last week and more rain, Fly Fishing for Trout on the Pere Marquette was tough.  There bellies are full, only a few were willing to play.  Small Streamers got there attention again early in the week. By the weekend we were starting to get a few to look up at  Stimulator type patterns.  The hatches were a bust with the colder weather, plenty of Drakes

We are having a Heat Wave!

Trout fishing on the Pere Marquette River has been hit or miss.  Last week we saw good numbers of Gray Drakes in the air but minimal Spinner falls through out the week.  Some stretches and nights were decent some nights a bust.  By the Holiday weekend the weather and Dry Fly fishing started to heat up. By Sunday there were reports of even a few Hex’s fluttering around in spots

Dry Fly Fishing should start heating up with the weather

Spring is finally here. The banks are turning green, the Hummingbirds and Oriole’s have showed up along with the bugs that the Trout so eagerly feed on. Trout Fishing is in full swing on the Pere Marquette River.   Last week it was Streamers smacked on the banks in the beginning.  Then followed by light tippet and delicate casts as you floated a Hendrickson spinner to a rising trout.  With

It’s Trout Time

The Pere Marquette River came up over the weekend and became extremely dirty. It’s now starting to drop and clear.  Last week I kicked off Trout Season and I must say on Thursday as we were receiving the rain, the Streamer bite was one of the best I had seen in a long time.  We also saw some good Steelhead fishing too, before the river came up.  Managed to Swing

Changing Gears

Well it’s time to pull the clutch in and change gears.  Trout Season has officially started on the Pere Marquette River.  There are a few Steelhead around.  With the warmer water temps there spawning fast and heading out to the Lake Michigan. It’s finally warming up now the banks are getting a little greener day by day. The birds are starting to nest, even heard a couple Turkey’s gobbling.  Last

Winter Steelheading

As you can see by the pictures winter arrived once again. Looked and felt more like middle of January last couple of  weeks then middle of April.  We really needed rain up here and most of last weekend we saw it in the frozen form.  We received so much freezing rain it actually accumulated like snow, then we saw snow.  The river did rise and started to drop by Tuesday.

Global Warming – Not in Michigan!

Mother Nature’s cruel joke is getting old now.  It was funny at first, but Winter just wont let go. I went XC Skiing the last two evenings , just crazy.  Last week we saw two Winter blizzards come in and Arctic temperature’s by the weekend. With low’s in the single digits and snow accumulation of 8 inches or more.  Steelhead fishing became even tougher then it already was.  With the

Fishing, just like the weather, has been up and down!

Hope everyone enjoyed their Easter.  Steelhead fishing on the Pere Marquette River is kind of with the same pattern as the weather right now, up and down.   It’s looking more like the end of April instead of the beginning.   The river needs rain in a bad way, the water levels are low.  We saw some precipitation over the weekend but it was in the form of snow again.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Steelhead fishing went from really good after the high water, to getting bad as the river dropped and became colder.  Now it’s getting ugly, river is at summer lows.  Steelhead fishing feels more like the end of April then the end of March. We need rain in a big way, looks like maybe will get some this week. I know my fingers are crossed.  We’re still getting opportunity’s at Steelhead

March Madness!

Steelhead fishing on the Pere Marquette River is getting tougher by the day.   With lack of precipitation, cold nights and sunny days the river is extremely low and clear.  A majority of the Fall / Winter Steelhead have now spawned and worked there way out to Lake Michigan. For now there are  Steelhead scattered through out the whole river system, just not a lot.   We desperately could use
