Steelhead fishing has been a roller coaster ride. With the weather, the bite has been up and down on the Pere Marquette River.   The PM fished well last week on the swing, with cloudy days being much better than bright days. The river is very low, cold, and clear – bad news for a Steelhead Angler. We’re grinding it out, and finding a few fish on the swing.  It’s all about searching for the players – the ones that aren’t stale, and want to eat a big fly.  Fish are scattered throughout the whole river.  Flies have been smaller and natural colors on the clear brighter days, Sculpin style patterns along with Black and Purple Leech style patterns on the darker days.
Pics from last week:  Matt and his Father-in-Law Jack joined me for their annual Steelhead trip. Matt is starting to become addicted to the grab of a Steelhead on the swung fly. Here he is with a great Hen.  Tom and I had a couple days of great fishing, especially when the front moved in last week.  Here he is with an awesome double striper of a buck that took his B.B. Leech pattern.  He also found this pretty little Hen on the B.B. Leech. Tom also cracked this Summer Steelhead that put up quite the fight on the swing.  I managed to get out with Rich and Heather. The weather was nice, and the river was extremely busy, but I found this great Hen on an Olive Sculpin.
