The Beard’s Burglar is a close cousin of the Signature Intruder, which is a popular west coast winter steelhead fly. This is a versatile pattern that welcomes interpretation. You can dramatically change the flies presentation and appearance by changing the materials used.

Burglar Recipe
Shank: 4xl -6xl cheap streamer hook (Cut hook point after tying) or Waddington shank.
Hook: # 1-4 Gamakatsu Octopus
Wire Loop: 20-pound test Toothy Critter Wire or other wire of your choice (tied to form a trailing loop that is long enough to slip the hook through).
Tying Cement: Zap-A-Gap
Thread: White GSP
Butt: Arctic fox fur in a dubbing loop and wrapped around shank 2 or 3 times.
Tail: Moderate clump of ostrich hurl and flashabou or holographic flashabou
Rear Collar Hackle: mallard flank feather
Body: Body braid or Ice dub
Throat: Arctic fox fur in a dubbing loop and wrapped around shank 2 or 3 times.
Wing: Moderate clump of Ostrich hurl and Flashabou or holographic flashabou (slightly longer than the first)
Eyes: Painted dumbbell eyes
Head: Arctic Fox in a dubbing loop, ice dub, or Australian possum, depending on the color or purpose of the fly.
